Women’s Campaign International is looking for highly motivated individuals to help us fulfill our mission. Our internship program is designed to provide undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates with a unique opportunity to develop both hard and soft skills in a friendly, professional and multicultural environment.

While scheduling is flexible, WCI requests that all interns commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week for at least 10 weeks.

GALS Internship

** GALS interns must be available from 2:00-6:00pm on either Tuesdays and Thursdays OR Mondays and Wednesdays starting the first week of September!**

Launched in 2010 in WCI’s home community of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the GALS program equips adolescent girls from low-income neighborhoods with leadership and communications skills, instilling the confidence to effect true social change in their lives and in their communities. GALS develops participants’ sense of personal power through workshops focusing on increasing health literacy, discussing global issues affecting women and girls, and building life skills in order for them to advocate for themselves and their communities. 

The GALS program consists of two 9-week sessions — one in the fall and one in the winter.

GALS Interns will assist with the coordination and facilitation of GALS at one participating GALS location, in addition to assisting the Program Director with administrative tasks at WCI HQ. GALS Interns shall help ensure that all aspects of the GALS program run smoothly. GALS Interns will assist the GALS Program Coordinator with distributing and collecting materials at their location.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with donors to arrange pick-up of food donations before each GALS session

  • Ensure all workshop materials are prepared and printed for each lesson

  • Support the lesson by adding in comments for thought when necessary but still allowing the girls to guide the conversation

  • Schedule and coordinate program workshops, guest speakers, and field trips

  • Support each workshop by placing yourself within the “crowd” of participants to help the Program Coordinator and Coaches maintain order by asking girls to stay off their phones, cut side conversations, etc. 

  • Assist the Program Coordinator with the distribution and collection of evaluation materials; bring evaluation materials back to WCI HQ

  • Assist the Program Director with the entry of program data and analysis of results

  • Help manage social media presence by taking photos and videos and asking girls for personal testimonies to share with followers and donors.

  • If desired, pick a workshop topic from the pre-selected options to facilitate

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or interest in working with youth (i.e. tutoring, mentoring, working as a camp counselor, etc.)

  • Familiarity with issues facing teenage girls in Philadelphia.

  • Must be comfortable talking to new people/groups, building relationships, and serving as a leader/mentor.

  • Commitment to improving the lives of women and girls

  • Proven ability to demonstrate maturity, grit, and resilience

  • Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills.

Grant Writing Internship

Grant Writing Interns will have a unique opportunity to support international development programs from the initial grant proposal stage through potential implementation and final evaluation. Specific duties that program interns will assist with or manage, include:

  • Grant Development (10%): Seek out and identify possible funding opportunities, in both the public and private sectors.

  • Research (5%): Conduct in-depth research on country-specific issues, potential partners, and current events.

  • Grant Writing (85%): Combine research and curriculum design into cohesive concept notes and grant applications.

Preferred skills, experience and interests include:

  • Strong organization skills, including ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.

  • Strong research skills required.

  • Ability to identify and use personal judgment to determine possible funding opportunities.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Interest in and knowledge of gender issues, international relations, international development and/or human rights.

  • Experience using Google Drive required.

Public Policy Internship

Public Policy Interns will focus on conducting research and examining data regarding WCI programming and legislative priorities.

Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Research legislative action that affects the WCI community

  • Provide support for meetings and briefings at WCI including: scheduling, tracking RSVPs, developing and assembling materials, supporting staff and writing summaries

  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Intern to update the WCI website and online profiles with legislative and program updates as necessary.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Superb verbal and written communication skills to communicate with multiple audiences

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and, if applicable, remotely

  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines

  • Commitment to team work

  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Word and Excel)

  • Ability to both work cooperatively with others and to work independently

  • Strong interest and familiarity with current events affecting women and girls, both domestically and globally

Non-Profit Management Internship

Nonprofit Management Interns will gain an intimate understanding of the various aspects of fundraising and financial management. Daily tasks and projects will include but are not limited to:

  • Donor Development: Creating donor solicitations and appreciation materials such as appeal letters and thank you letters.

  • Research: Researching potential donors and managing the upkeep of our donor database system.

  • Fundraising: Assist in creating fundraising plans and materials. Conduct potential donor outreach via phone and email.

  • Record keeping: Organize and maintain updated company files.

Preferred skills, experience and interests include:

  • Strong organization skills, including ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.

  • Excellent research skills.

  • Interest or experience in fundraising strongly preferred.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Interest in and knowledge of gender issues, international relations, international development and/or human rights.

  • Experience using Google Drive and Microsoft Excel required.

Marketing & Communication Internship

Marketing and communications interns will focus their efforts on the design and creation of marketing materials including,  annual reports, email newsletters, mail-out materials, and social media posts. Specific duties that marketing interns will assist with or manage include:

  • Graphic Design: Designing print and online marketing materials.

  • Writing: Writing newsletters and social media posts on behalf of WCI.

  • Strategic Development: Creating a marketing plan in order to reach and engage the greatest amount of supporters.

  • Help maintain website and electronic communication platforms

Preferred skills, experience and interests include:

  • Strong organization skills, including ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.

  • Experience posting on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook required. Experience posting on these platforms on behalf of an organization preferred.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Interest in and knowledge of gender issues, international relations, international development and/or human rights.

  • Ability to identify and use personal judgement to determine relevant content to share on behalf of WCI.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Advanced English language skills required.
