WCI began working in Timor-Leste in 2015, building the capacity of local organizations to empower women. WCI’s inaugural two-year program focuses on peacebuilding and women’s empowerment by working with local NGO Ba Futuru to train rural women and communities on conflict prevention, business and financial literacy, and community mobilization. Our organization is proud to partner with Ba Futuru, a dynamic nongovernmental organization who has been working to prevent violence against children since 2004. Using community theater and art, WCI’s pro-grams will have impacted thousands of Timorese people through trainings in education, conflict prevention, and SGBV education. This program is being supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Global Women, Peace, and Security Initiative.
