A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a CBS News Foundation Fellow at Columbia University, Marjorie began her career as a television journalist at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia. As a journalist with NBC and its owned and operated stations, and a contributing correspondent to the Today Show, Sunday Today, A Closer Look, CNBC, and Real Life with Jane Pauley, Marjorie’s reporting won numerous awards including five Emmys.
In 1992, Marjorie was the first woman ever elected to Congress from Pennsylvania in her own right. During her term in the House, Marjorie was appointed to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, the Committee on Small Business, the Committee on Government Operations.
In 1995, Marjorie served as the Director of the United States delegation to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. At the conference, 189 countries signed a Platform for Action that pledged to further the rights of women around the world. Inspired by these commitments, Marjorie founded Women’s Campaign International to empower women. Since then, WCI’s programs have been helping women find their voices by giving them tangible skills in political leadership, conflict mitigation, economic empowerment and civic engagement.
In addition to her work with WCI, Marjorie has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, has worked as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and a Senior Fellow at the Annenberg Public Policy Center, and received a Presidential Appointment to the VEF Foundation. She is the author four books, and the mother of a combined family of 11 children. With the refugee families she has been sponsoring over the years, her household has taken care of 25 children in total.
Executive Director Andrea Townrow
Andrea took the reins as WCI Executive Director in January 2015, bringing more than 25 years of international business development, and financial management experience. Prior to joining WCI, Andrea served as Executive Vice President of the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia, where she developed many global programs and led trade missions to emerging and developed markets. In this role, she oversaw state and federal grants and fundraising, and developed partnerships with area Universities. Her international experience includes living and working in The Netherlands and Switzerland, and working on large scale mining projects in Latin America. Fluent in French and Spanish, Andrea holds a B.A. in International Business, B.A.in French from Dominican University, and an M.B.A from DePaul University.
Chair of the Board - Edie Hunt
Edith Hunt has spent virtually all of her 32 year career at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York. During the first half of her career she held a variety of positions from commodities trader to business unit manager to Chief Administrative Officer of the Fixed Income Division. She spent the second half of her career dealing with critical people issues of the firm, and rose to the level of Partner, serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Human Capital Management Division. In this capacity she had global responsibility for all of the recruiting, training and diversity initiatives of the firm. This role took her to dozens of countries where Goldman Sachs has offices and she has interacted with people from dozens of backgrounds across the globe.
In addition to having overall management responsibility for global training at the firm, she is an experienced hands-on presenter and trainer. She has trained audiences ranging from middle school, high school, university and graduate degree students to every level of investment banking employees from entry level to senior managers, and has trained financial services clients from across the globe. She has trained in locations ranging from inner city environments to elite corporate retreats and in locations as diverse as Manhattan, Salt Lake City, London, Bangalore, Beijing and Amman.Training topics include financial literacy, business ethics, self-empowerment and self-advocacy, presentation and communication skills, interview training (both for interviewers and interviewees), goal setting and performance management, having difficult conversations, motivating staff in tough times, networking, mentorship and sponsorship, the importance of building a culture in organizations and all aspects of diversity.
Ms. Hunt has an extensive portfolio of non-profit work. She serves as Chair of the Board of Women’s Campaign International. She is a founding member of the board of New Jersey Needs You, a mentoring and skills training program for first generation college students from New Jersey. She is on the board of Forte Foundation, having previously served as Chair of the Board. Forte is a consortium of major corporations and business schools which encourages women to pursue business careers and graduate studies in business. She is a founding member of the board of the Jersey City Fund.
Program Manager - Kathryn Kutzner
Kathryn, a Pennsylvania native, joined WCI in July 2016 as Program Manager. She brings a strong passion for women’s empowerment with solid experience in international programming, operational management, and monitoring and evaluation. After receiving a B.S. in Business Administration from Cairn University, Kathryn joined the U.S. Peace Corps in Malawi as a Community Based Natural Resource Management volunteer. Her projects included the construction of a community health clinic, building the capacity of local women’s and HIV/AIDS groups through small-scale business, promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, and running a volleyball and life skills club for girls in high school. After Peace Corps, Kathryn then earned her M.A. in International Development from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. Her academic focus centered on women’s empowerment in sub-Saharan Africa through agricultural and environmental development as well as international project management. While in school, Kathryn completed a fellowship with Raising Malawi in which she built the organizational and technical capacity of two grassroots organizations which both serve orphans and vulnerable children. Before joining WCI, Kathryn worked for the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC, where she provided technical financial monitoring and administration of several environmental conservation programs. As Program Manager, Kathryn is responsible for managing the design, development, monitoring and evaluation, and implementation of WCI’s international and publicly-funded programs.
Marketing and Communications Coordinator - Amylark Lorwood
Raised in Rochester, New York, Amylark joined WCI in early 2016 after spending an extensive time abroad. She obtained an undergraduate degree from Indiana University, where she pursued interests in political science and international trade. After finishing her B.A., she traveled throughout India, Africa, and Europe studying NGO development, supporting her efforts by working full-time as an English teacher in Spain. Amylark started at WCI as an intern, contributing experience working in fair trade and women's empowerment. In her new role, she is responsible for coordinating all internal and external communications efforts, as well as driving WCI’s social and print media strategies. Additionally, Amylark provides administrative, financial, and special events support under the direction of the Executive Director and President.
